LENT 2021

LENT 2021
Lent is the 40 day period (minus Sundays) between Ash Wednesday and Easter. Christians spend this time in prayer, fasting, and giving, with the anticipation that after 40 days we can then celebrate Easter, the risen Jesus, with a clean heart.

Fasting
Because Covid has already forced us to sacrifice in many ways, you will not be asked to give up anything more as a school community. With that said, if you personally have developed a poor habit that you would like to cut back on; for instance, eating too much sugar, or staying up too late playing video games, or smoking, please consider “giving up” for Lent.

This year, as a school community, we will focus on PRAYER and ALMSGIVING as part of our Lenten journey.

Prayer
A condensed version of the Gospel of Luke will be read over the morning announcements. There are 24 chapters, so we will cover one chapter per day for 24 days, leading up to Easter.

Almsgiving
This year you and your class will participate in at least one act of generosity during Lent. Please
select from the following list:
1) Writing letters to our deployed military troops (see below for a sample letter)*
2) Baby Bottle Drive - money (change) for the Owen Sound Pregnancy Centre**
3) Clothing Drive - gently used women’s and children’s clothing for the Grey Bruce Women’s Centre**
4) Any other almsgiving idea!

*This Drive will run during your Week 1 Class over the week of March 1-5 so that deliveries can be made prior to Easter

**This Drive will run during your Week 1 Class over the weeks of March 15-19 and March 29-31, and deliveries will take place on Thursday, April 1st

Greetings,
We are Carleton University students writing to thank you for your services and everything you
do, we truly appreciate it. We know things have been difficult working through these times, but
we hope you and your families are safe and in good health. To brighten your day we want to
leave you with a joke, "Why did the gyms close down? Because they didn't work out."
