Dear Families,

 

We are now prepared to schedule pick-up times to safely retrieve your student’s belongings.  Pick-ups will occur between Monday, June 15 at 8:30 AM and Wednesday, June 17 at 3:00 PM. 

All lockers must be emptied to prepare for summer cleaning.  Lockers not cleared  by June 17, will have the locks removed by school staff, with any important contents stored in plastic bags for a period of 2 weeks, then items which remain not picked up will be donated to local community service groups.

The protocol for the year-end collection of student belongings outlined below keeps the health and safety of all BGCDSB students and staff at the forefront.  This protocol has been approved by the Grey-Bruce Public Health Unit.

Responsibilities of All Staff, Students, and Families Prior to Visiting School/Site

Prior to accessing a school/site you must conduct a self-assessment for COVID-19and:

  1. Have not been outside of Canada within the last 14 days from the date of entry to the school

  2. Be symptom-free of respiratory illness

  3. Have not cared for or had known contact with an individual with confirmed COVID-19 or COVID-19 like symptoms (fever, new cough, difficulty breathing).

  4. If any of the conditions apply then you MUST NOT visit the school/site. Other arrangements must be made so please contact your School Principal to discuss and appoint a designate that meets the above criteria.

    Secondary Classrooms (Grades 9-12)

    Only students with lockers may enter secondary schools. It is not a requirement, but one parent/guardian may attend with the student.

    Upon entry to the school each student will be provided with a box or bag to gather belongings. Please do not bring in any bags/containers/boxes from home.

    Students/Parents are encouraged to wear a face mask or face covering while inside the building. BGCDSB will NOT be able to provide Students/Parents with face masks or face coverings.

    Reminder to Students/Parents to bring their locker combination. Locks may need to be cut off by an authorized Board employee if the students/parents cannot remember combination.

    Students and families will use the electronic scheduling system that has been established for booking parent/teacher interviews to schedule curbside pick up. (see below)

    Students/parents will not be permitted to access the main office or any other area of the school other than the lockers.

    Other items (i.e. personal instruments, art work, science projects, medications, etc.) will be assembled for pickup and will be placed in a location that can be easily retrieved during scheduled pick up times.

    Instructions

    1. Go to the scheduling webpage at https://smhs.parentinterview.com/  
    2. Enter the Access Code (printed below) and click "Sign In"
         Please make a note of your Confirmation #
    3. Fill in your contact information and click "Continue to Make Appointments"
    4. Click on "Appointments for Personal Belongings Collection"
    5. Click on "Available" for a time at which you wish to attend the school
    6. Click on "My Schedule" (top left of the page)
    7. Print out, email or copy down your appointment time

    SMHS Learning Portal

    Good evening.

     

    We want our families to know that we understand the challenges faced as we move to Distance Learning as a result of the COVID - 19 pandemic. In creating a plan for St. Mary's High School, in accordance with the Minister’s expectations, we believe that we need to go slowly and ensure we take into account the needs of our students and families as we navigate these uncharted waters. We want to assure you that we are minimizing, as much as possible, any additional stress on families. 

    On Wednesday we will be distributing technology based on requests received as a result of our survey. Those families who have made such requests will be receiving information from Mr. van Wieringen, Mr. Murphy or Mr. Kirby on how to pick up their technology. To support students and families we have created a Distance Learning Website to serve  as a landing page for students and families to connect to messages from the school, to students’ classrooms, to additional learning opportunities, and to mental health supports that are available to families. This page will go live first thing Monday morning. There will be opportunities for families to access training videos, and a Family Help Desk for questions about our digital tools.

    For our grade 12 students who are graduating this spring, our focus is to ensure that you remain on track for graduation. We fully intend on meeting the April 23rd reporting deadline to support your application to your chosen post-secondary destination. The province is working to ensure you are not disadvantaged when it comes to post-secondary applications. Furthermore, the 40 hours of community service requirement for this year’s graduating class has been waived. 

    As we move into Holy Week, a most solemn time in our liturgical calendar, we remain hopeful that as a community, united in prayer, working together by practicing physical distancing, staying at home, and supporting our health care workers, we will be able to come through this pandemic stronger and united in our commitment to our faith and each other.
