From Katie Walsh, your 2011-2012 student trustee.
As student trustee it is my duty to represent the student body at the level of the school board. I attend monthly board meetings where I share what happens at St. Mary’s under the categories of Catholicity, Academics, Athletics and Extra Curriculars. I also give the students’ perspective on numerous topics that arise. Several times a year, I have the pleasure of attending a variety of conferences with other student trustees across the province. We tackle different issues and discuss ways to improve education in our school boards and across the province. Each month, I put an article in the school newsletter to help students and parents stay connected with what is happening at the board and provincial levels.
I am very grateful for being given the opportunity to be student trustee. I enjoy representing the student voice and helping to make positive change in education. It is a great responsibility but it well worth the hard work.
